A former official with a Michigan school district has filed a lawsuit against the district's superintendent and board of education, as well as two employees, over his 2011 termination. He was fired after two employees sold thousands of dollars of scrap metal they had taken from the school. The lawsuit accuses the defendants of emotional distress, defamation and breach of contract. The former official is seeking over $25,000 in damages.
Lawsuit puts stop to Michigan county's policy meetings
A Michigan county, its treasurer and land bank authority face a lawsuit claiming they violated the county's policy on land distribution as well as state law, causing a subcommittee devoted to assessing the county's land distribution policies to temporarily suspend additional meetings. The Kent County Taxpayers Alliance announced plans to sue the defendants for unfair business practices, alleging that they allowed the land bank to wrongfully acquire a number of properties.
Michigan program aims to help small businesses
A program known as LINC Community Revitalization is offering services to small businesses in a Michigan county with the goal of increasing their sustainability and competitiveness with larger national companies. LINC has three locations across Grand Rapids, each of which houses a number of businesses. Among its nine businesses are a barbershop, radio station, computer repair shop and several restaurants.
Multiple Detroit area hospital groups may be considering mergers
According to several anonymous health care industry officials, at least six large hospital groups in the metro Detroit area have begun acquisition talks or are looking for potential merger partners. Trustees Michigan based hospital groups Beaumont Health System and Henry Ford Health System were verified to have met and discussed possible purchase agreements.
